Companies
engaged in trade way before governments became involved to regulate trade. Merchants were shipping goods from Europe to
Asia, Africa and South America and bringing back silks, spices, wood, minerals,
cocoa and coffee beans and other goods without government oversight. This kind of trade should be allowed without
government interference.
Multinational
corporations already have integrated their supply chains into their operations
and should be allowed to continue these.
If, however, sovereign nations set their trade policies, these
corporations should expect to pay whatever tariffs and charges are imposed by
these nations. Corporate tax rates
should be reduced in these cases to offset some of the additional expenses these
corporations will need to pay. They should also not be surprised if these
nations remove subsidies and tax breaks.
