Barack Obama’s Muslim half-brother
Malik has come out in full support of Republican nominee Donald Trump, and has
now given his younger brother’s presidency a poor assessment.
Malik, appearing on Good Morning
Britain, decried Obama’s time in office, saying, “All these promises, you
know my brother became the president and he made a lot of promises and he was
riding on the promise of hope. We had a lot of excitement and thought he would
do a lot of things, but if you look at the Middle East right now, it’s a mess.
There are people being killed all over the place…”
Host Susanna Reid then interrupted
Malik as he listed the numerous locations of recent terror attacks and strife.
“One of the ways that Donald Trump, who you now support, has said that he would
tackle those problems is by putting a temporary ban on Muslims entering
America,” she said. “You yourself are a Muslim. That would mean that you would
be prevented from traveling to America if the person you voted for becomes
president.” “How do you feel about that?” she asked.
Obama’s half-brother defended
Trump’s statements, stating that every country needs their own “rules and
regulations.” “I think that the United States, and
whichever country you name it, has rules and regulations and laws, we don’t
just stop people. You look at somebody, and if they look like somebody who’s
dangerous then they’ll act accordingly. I don’t think it’s a blanket thing. And
the statement was just a response or a reaction to the events that are
happening right now.”
Malik goes on, “I’m a Muslim, yes,
but I don’t condone the shooting and killing of innocent people in the name of
Islam.” He explained that in response to
increasing violence, “Anybody in their right mind would react accordingly and
put up whatever measures is necessary.”
