Travis Stegall to EEO Board

Governor Deal Appoints Travis Stegall to State Equal Opportunity Board of Commissioners.

DECATUR, Ga., September 29, 2016 - Governor Deal appoints Travis Stegall, Executive Director of the T.R. Stegall Education Foundation, to the state board of Commissioners of the Commission on Equal Opportunity.

Mr. Stegall is the 1st Vice Chairman of the DeKalb GOP, a graduate of the Conservative Policy Leadership Institute, Department of Community Affairs Economic Development Academy, and resides in Decatur, Georgia.

The Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity has a Board of Commissioners that consists of business and community leaders statewide.

The Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity (GCEO) has two divisions to include the Equal Employment Division and the Fair Housing Division.  The staff consists of an Executive Director and Administrator, Melvin J. Everson, Deputy Director and two Division Directors along with a team of investigators.

The Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity was created in 1978 by the passage of House Bill 1711, authored by the late Representative J.C. Daugherty (District 33) of Atlanta, Georgia. The legislation was enacted to safeguard individuals within the State of Georgia from discrimination in public employment based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, handicap and age with respect to employment.  The legislation was known as the "Fair Employment Practices Act of 1978."  Since its passage, additional amendments have been passed to include additional protection from discrimination.

The appointment of Travis Stegall to this commission is a good sign.  We elected Travis to be 1st Vice Chair of the DeKalb GOP in 2015.
