Gunboat Diplomacy

The number one priority for our military is to prevent invasion.  So far, they have failed. The number two priority for our military is to keep the shipping lanes open and free from molestation.

The last group of pirates were Somalis, but they were confronted and stopped. Now the Somalis are part of the US invasion.

Decades ago, Egypt tried to close the Suez Canal, but we sent the US Navy to talk them out of it.  It worked.  The problem was that all the Arab oil was shipped through this canal.

The China problem has to do with their deciding that some Japanese islands needed some Chinese military presence. That’s part of “keeping the shipping lanes open”.

The primary mission of the US military is to protect privately owned US land and protect US shipping so that trade isn’t disrupted.

Our global shipping lanes are in international waters, so when countries like China set up operations outside of China, they need to give something in return and get permission.
