In 2017, Mexico’s nominal GDP was $1.147 trillion. It is
the 11th largest economy on the planet. Nominal per capita GDP was $8,700 per year in
2016. GDP by sector includes services
59.8%, industry 36.6% and agriculture 3.6%. Occupation by sector includes
services 61.9%, industry 24.1%, agriculture
13.4%, Mexico’s population is 130,759,074.
Labor force in 2015 was 53 million. Population below poverty was 42.3%
in 2017.
Unemployment was 3.44%, Land
area is 761,606 square miles, the 13th largest country. Exports were
$406.5 billion in 2017 including automobiles, electronics, televisions,
computers, mobile phones and LCDs. Commodities include oil, silver, cotton,
coffee, fruits and vegetables. 80% of
Exports were sold to the US.
Imports were $417.3 billion in 2017 including metalworking
machines, steel mill products, oil drilling equipment, agricultural equipment,
automobiles. 49% of imports came from
the US.
Government debt was 48% of GDP in 2016. 18.10 Pesos equal
$1 US Dollar. Each Peso is worth 5.5 cents.
Government corruption is endemic. Owning private property is
at your own risk.
Comments
We should be able to
increase US exports to Mexico and decrease imports to the US from Mexico to
narrow the 31% gap in the US trade deficit with Mexico.
We will need an
effective border wall and effective visa controls to stop illegal migration to
the US. This will also help to dry up drug cartel cash that is now corrupting
Mexican government operations.
