We have things that
are unsustainable and unworkable. An inordinate amount of time, money and
effort goes to things that don’t work. Things that take too long and don’t
solve the problems they were designed to solve, things that are designed
intentionally to not solve the problems and things that are designed
intentionally to cause problems.
There are reasons for
broken things that stem from ignorance to malice.
Mistakes that stem
from ignorance are made as we experiment by trial and error using the
scientific method. Edison did thousands of experiments, but only patented
things that worked.
But there are
half-baked ideas that are codified in law and continue to be enforced, but
unworkable. There is ample evidence that legislatures are prone to passing laws
that do more harm than good and that legislatures are the biggest broken thing
we have to fix.
Things that can’t be
fixed by government are referred by legislators as “a challenge”. The rules
legislators impose on themselves are designed to allow them to pour sugar in
the gas tank to gum up the works. The
filibuster rule and the 60 vote requirement are designed to deny the majority
to pass any bills.
The problem in
Congress is the infiltration of Democrats into the Republican Party. These
Liberal Republicans may live in a District or State with a 50-50 split
population of voters. In addition, these politicians need to do the bidding of
their campaign contributors. We call them “Establishment Republicans” or
Republicans in Name Only (RINOs). They campaign like Republicans, but vote with
Democrats
Life is easier for
Democrats. They just want to “fundamentally transform” the US into a Socialist
country and are skilled at hiding land mines inside the laws they pass. The
“unintended consequences” that arise from these laws give them new issues to
pass even more bad laws. This flow of bad law invariably leads to socialism.
Their strategy for having government take over everything is to make it too
expensive for consumers. Healthcare and Education are industries that excessive
government subsidies made unaffordable.
Another problem is
members of Congress, who escape their dilemma by becoming more loyal to
Congress and government than they are to the voters or their Party Platform.
Those who run for office believe in government and are blindsided to any
efforts to reform government. They accept the corruption because these people
have become their friends. Most of the people we really need to be in Congress
won’t touch it with a stick.
