Commercial Infrastructure

Dredging and widening the port at Norfolk VA and Savannah GA are important to allow mega-ships to use these ports efficiently to import and export goods.  Fixing every interstate highway that carries freight to eliminate gridlock is important to allow efficient interstate trucking to work.  Ensuring that freight rail and freight trains operate effectively is also important. I would expect the private companies who benefit from expanded harbors, rail freight and truck freight to invest heavily in these projects.

You could argue that States are responsible for funding these projects to protect commerce and they should be included in the short list of critical infrastructure priorities we expect States to attend to. If federal transportation taxes were efficient, this funding would go to the interstate highways and nothing else.

Another part of critical infrastructure includes pipelines to carry oil, gas and water and should be priorities of the States and the companies responsible for moving these products.
