Banishment

Abraham banished Hagar and Ishmael to prevent them from challenging Isaac’s position as heir to rule over Abraham’s tribe.  He gave them food and water and sent them away.

Banishment is defined as - sending (someone) away from a country or place as an official punishment. It means to exile, expel, deport, eject, expatriate, ostracize, extradite, chase away and shut out.

We banish criminals to remove them from the community so they can do no more harm. History attests to this practice.

Devil's Island and associated prisons eventually became one of the most infamous prison systems in history. While the prison system was in use (1852–1953), inmates included political prisoners (such as 239 republicans who opposed Napoleon III's coup d'état in 1851) and the most hardened of thieves and murderers. Devil’s Island was off the coast of French Guiana north of Brazil.

Australia was originally a British Penal Colony - History of Australia (1788–1850) - It is commonly reported that the colonization of Australia was driven by the need to address overcrowding in the British prison system, and the fact of the British losing the Thirteen Colonies of America in the American Revolution; however, it was simply not economically viable to transport convicts halfway around the world for this reason alone. Many convicts were either skilled tradesmen or farmers who had been convicted for trivial crimes like unpaid debts and were sentenced to seven years transportation, the time required to set up the infrastructure for the new colony. Convicts were often given pardons prior to or on completion of their sentences and were allocated parcels of land to farm. Australia became politically independent in 1901 and continued as part of the British Empire.

Pakistan was created as a banishment strategy to allow Muslims to leave India and immigrate to their own country.  Muslims had been a disruptive force in India since 1852. The British East India Company had taken over India in 1757 and India became a British Colony in 1858. Muslim riots were anti-British and anti-Hindu.

In the 1940s it became clear that chronically unhappy Muslims needed to be banished. The idea of having them voluntarily migrate to northern India and calling it Pakistan became a plan that would allow Britain to grant India independence. Riots in India peaked in 1946 and Pakistan was created in 1947.

Banishment should be the objective of the Justice System. The courts currently “administer” a “revolving door”. Criminals are set free to commit more crimes. This is a failed system that could benefit from dropping dangerous criminals off to islands to fend for themselves with no taxpayer support. They would have their citizenship revoked and would never be allowed to return. No guards would be there to prevent them from killing each other. They would have to learn to get along or die.
