President Trump is no
stranger to Labor Unions. He visited the Operating Engineers training center in
Texas.on 4/10/19 to congratulate them for training members operate the machines
required to build and maintain our oil pipelines and other infrastructure.
My
brother completed his first year at St. Louis U in Finance, but got married and
got a job as an Electrician at McDonnell Aircraft in 1957. He quickly landed a
spot on the IBEW Negotiating Team where he became a fixture. He convinced them
to negotiate for productivity and job content and it worked. I would pursue a career to make unions unnecessary
and we kept each other updated. We agreed on all the issues and remained a
mutual admiration society. We lived next door to each other in St. Charles from
1966 to 1975 and he taught me how to do electrical, plumbing, concrete and
excavation. He worked a lot of overtime
and invested most of his money in stocks.
In 1995, he called me to announce that he was retiring from McDonnell
Douglas to become a “financial maggot”. He had $3 million and he was going to
double that. He was the “millionaire next door”.
I
had always encouraged union leaders leave the extortion business and focus on
member job content expansion, training and development, but they didn’t listen
until now after Congress offshored all the manufacturing from the US to other
countries. It was good to see President Trump at their Training Facility in
Texas.
