Censure County Commissioners

Resolution to publicly censure Catoosa County Commissioners

Whereas, SPLOST can only create projects for county departments. Once created, those projects MUST be funded by general revenues that come from LOST, permits, fees, 23% of property tax collections, and grants; and

Whereas, Commission Chairman Keith Greene said at a March 2013 County Republican meeting, just days before the referendum that was to be voted on by the public, that SPLOST would not result in any property tax increases, and furthermore would insulate our county from such increases; and

Whereas, On July 31st 2013, immediately following the assurances that there would be no property tax increase, the millage rate was increased 0.914 mils, which is a 17% property tax increase; and

Whereas, compared to the current rate, taxpayers will be given a proposed .707 millage rate increase which translates to 11% more money to the Catoosa County government in the next fiscal year. The proposed property tax increase will provide the Catoosa County government with about $1.1 million more in revenue; and

Whereas, the role of government is to provide for its citizens only the most critical functions which cannot be provided from individuals or private (non-government) organizations; therefore be it

Resolved, That we adopt this resolution at this Catoosa County Republican executive county meeting to censure any Republican County Commissioner who votes ¨aye¨ on September 2nd for any property tax increase; and be it further

Resolved, To serve our constituents, party members, and the public image of our commitment to lowering taxes, by publishing this proposed censure to all major news outlets, stating the names of the aye voters, their districts, and the fact that they spend, create, and maintain growing government, instead of looking for ways to find more free market solutions and cutting existing waste.

Any Republican willing to step up and endorse this proposed resolution? Even though it`s not in your county, it could assist in unifying undecided committee voters.

Party status would be a plus! Thank you so much! Only 2 more days till the vote!

County GOPs need to step up when their County Commissions act contrary to Republican principles.
