No-Knock Warrants Unsustainable

The risks to homeowners of continuing unfettered no-knock warrants are unsustainable. “middle-of-the-night” door knocks too often result in the homeowner grabbing a gun as they move to the door.  Claiming to be “the police” can be used by criminals, who can also dress up like police. Judges need sensible guidelines to follow.
Tips should result in surveillance authority, not warrants.  Tips from convicted felons are suspect along with tips from vindictive acquaintances.
Police need to investigate suspects to uncover probable cause and present a compelling case to receive a no-knock warrant.
No knock warrants should be limited to daytime hours when the homeowner can see the police in uniform and the police car outside before they can trust that the visit is legitimate.
