Dem Strategist on Bernie Supporters Crossing Over to Vote for This GOP
Candidate
Fox
News’ Neil Cavuto had Democratic Strategist Harlan Hill on his show recently to
discuss what could happen if Bernie Sanders fails to secure the Democratic
nomination.
Hill
seemed to believe that at least 40% of Bernie supporters would prefer to cross
over to the other side and vote for Donald Trump rather than vote for Hillary
in the general election.
Cavuto
asked Hill, “There are a lot of his supporters that would not support Hillary
Clinton… are you worried this is going to cause a serious problem in
Philadelphia at the convention?”
“Regardless
of there is a problem in Philadelphia or not, 40%, almost 40% of Bernie Sanders
supporters say they will not support Hillary Clinton in the general election.
And I expect that number to grow,” Hill replied.
“Well,
where will they go?” Cavuto asked.
“I
think that they’ll either stay home or they’ll cross over.”
“Who
would they cross over to?”
“Donald
Trump. That’s it. They’re not going to vote for Ted Cruz.”
Comments
The common ground is populism. Both Trump and Sanders are identifying the problems
their voters face. Their goals include a better life for regular folks, but
their action plans would be totally different.
On the economy, Trump would get government out of the way and Sanders
would have government take on additional costs.
