Our
Conservative Presidents have produced strong US economies. Liberal Presidents
have weakened the US economy with big, expensive government policies. We now
find ourselves with Trump, a Conservative President, trying to revive our
broken economy with a Liberal Republican Congress.
The Rise
and Fall of the US Economy
The US
economy was extremely good from 1945 to 1963 when we had Conservative
Presidents. High School graduates could get jobs, buy homes and live on one
paycheck. Students worked minimum wage part-time jobs after school. We were the
only manufacturing economy left standing after 1945. We built homes,
appliances, automobiles, apparel and everything you can imagine and created
suburban living. We continued to produce
chemicals and new materials and we improved crop yields.
Our
European trading partners recovered from war damage by 1950 and US company
exports were good. They bought US goods, studied them and copied them.
The
environmental movement lobbied in the 1960s to restrict timber harvesting and
mining.
By the
1970s, foreign companies were beginning to compete with US companies and
offered better products for lower prices. Foreign governments began to require
the US to manufacture in their countries for permission to sell in these
countries. After the 1990s we off-shored our manufacturing to foreign countries
with cheaper labor and no regulations.
