The DACA Problem

During the campaign, Trump said that illegals would have to go to the “back of the line” and apply for citizenship. He signaled that they would not be given a path to citizenship.

Obama created DACA and the courts have decided it isn’t legal, so Trump notified the DACA folks that he had to terminate the program.  Trump did invite Congress to address this problem.  He also wants to eliminate the lottery and chain migration immigration programs

Over the decades 800,000 children of illegal immigrants were brought to the US.  These were not anchor babies who were given citizenship.  They are the children of non-citizen illegal immigrants, many of whom are now adults, who attended US schools and are now living mostly in California and Texas.

There are 43 million immigrants in the US. Of these, there are 11 million illegal immigrants in the US. Of the 800,000 DACA program children, 22% are under age 25 and 3000 have jobs.

DACA program folks have work permits and many are going to college in the US, I assume on student loans.

There are probably 1,600,000 parents of these 800,000 DACA program folks who are working. They could all be given temporary work permit status, but no citizenship.

Welfare needs to be eliminated for non-citizens as soon as possible.  Those immigrants who can support themselves will stay and those who cannot will likely move back to their home countries. Many DACA families will self-select and reduce their numbers.

Before we deal with the DACA program folks, we need to end the lottery and chain migration and deal with the immigrant welfare problem. Taxpayers are subsidizing legal immigrants, illegal immigrants and refugees. The cost is enormous.

Employers of immigrants will need to adjust to hiring US citizens. What we are doing now is unsustainable.
