Medicaid
eligibility is based on income and covers households up to 133% of the Federal
Poverty Level.
For 2017,
the Poverty Guideline for a 1 person household is $12,060. 133% of $12,060 is $16040. So an individual
making up to 16,040 should be eligible for Medicaid.
The
Poverty Guideline amount for a 2 person household is $16,240. The table is as
follows:
$12,060 for individuals
$16,240 for a family of 2
$20,420 for a family of 3
$24,600 for a family of 4
$28,780 for a family of 5
$32,960 for a family of 6
$37,140 for a family of 7
$41,320 for a family of 8

States are administering Medicaid with federal funds. The criteria above indicates “eligibility”
and actually being approved depends on federal funds allocated vs. medical claims
paid. Also, providers serving Medicaid patients are limited. It would have been
cheaper if we had kept Counties in charge of indigent care in County Hospitals
and clinics.
