The Group of Seven (G7) is an informal
grouping of seven of the world’s advanced economies consisting of Canada,
France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan and Italy. The
European Union is a non-enumerated member of the G7 but neither chairs nor
hosts Summits.
India and Brazil are
in the top 10 countries by GDP, but they are not included in the G7. Russia is
11th in GDP, but they were voted off when they annexed Crimea and
invaded Ukraine.
Themes to be covered
in the June 2008 G7 Summit include: 6/8 - Economic growth that works for
everyone, Economic growth and the future of work, 6/9 - Oceans, Climate change
and clean energy and Gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The G7 summit is being held at Terrasse St-Laurent, Le Manoir Richelieu, Charlevoix, Quebec
