The media is ignoring
the US forest fire fest that has been raging in the West all year. The internet includes unhelpful websites that
don’t allow viewers to comprehend the damage. Only one website reports
year-to-date totals is:
More than
half the woods and forest in the United States (441 million acres) mostly
located in the east is owned and managed by some 11 million private ownerships.
Of those, 95 percent are classified as “Family and Individual” ownerships, 4
percent are classified as “Corporate” ownerships, and 1 percent is classified
as “Other Private” ownerships.
As of 9/11/18, since
1/1/18, 8,131,216 acres, mostly on US federal land, have been lost to the 2018
forest fires in all States. An
additional 1,399,806 acres are being consumed by 84 fires that are now burning.
2018 will surpass the record set in 2015 when 8.6 million acres burned.
These forests are
mismanaged by the US Bureau of Land Management and the US Forest Service.
Extinguishing these annual forest fires costs $2 billion a year.
