Software Development

The first mechanical adding device was developed in 1842. Assembly language was developed in the 1940s in military applications. FORTRAN was invented in 1951 and was the first modern programming language. FORTRAN was further developed by IBM in 1954.

Modern Software Development before integrated circuits began in 1945 integrated circuits began development in the 1950s and continued through the 1990s.

This prompted the development of pocket size calculators and radios. ICs replaced cathode ray tubes in TV sets and the Internet became possible with the development of large processor chips. Our Smartphones have added Internet, camera and video production capability.

Software has been developed for communication, but needs to be redeveloped to handle cyber security issues to protect our financial system and utilities. This will require a completely new type of software that is secure. We also need to secure our electronics systems.

Microwave pulse weapons and solar eruptions can fry our electronics and we need a miniaturized Tesla Cage-Dome method to protect our electronics. This is a whole new ballgame that will cost $trillions and nobody wants to pay for it. Our financial and utility industries need to step up and fix this.

Software kernels deteriorate and require continual updating. Our electronically stored information can be hacked and destroyed. It could take decades to protect our electronic systems. We are experimenting with software to give us robots and driverless vehicles, but our software already has serious problems of its own we are not addressing.

We have advanced our technical abilities in electronics from the 1940s to the 2020s. These 80 years have been productive, but making our systems secure is now required.
