Health v Motivation 10-9-24

We have always observed high energy toddlers and 5-year-old question askers. We have also seen their energy levels become muted as they enter school. As parents, we need to identify why. It could be illness, reactions to medication or boredom at school. A drop in school grades could mean drug addiction or alcoholism. A drop in energy level should not be dismissed as “a phase”. What appears to be Laziness could be a symptom of ill health or motivation.

Psychology of Laziness: Laziness may reflect a lack of self-esteem, a lack of positive recognition by others, a lack of discipline stemming from low self-confidence, or a lack of interest in the activity or belief in its efficacy. Laziness may manifest as procrastination or vacillation.

Building self-confidence involves finding out what you like to do and then getting good at it. Children can do this through Academics, Sports, Music, Crafts, Social Interaction and other activities. Home chores give children an opportunity to learn things they will use in daily life as adults. Home projects can lead to interests about how things work and how to do repairs.  This can lead to careers in construction.  Children can discover unique skills that can be exercised early, perfected through practice and compliment early jobs.

Energy Level, Focus, Talent, IQ, Occupational Interests and Family Businesses influence individual career choices,

Education, basic skills, life skills, current events, history and economics influence occupational selection,

Motivation influences us to seek out what we do well and love to do. We are all as unique as our DNA.

Those who are “Other-Directed” are easily led astray by Fads like Extreme Environmentalism, Group-Think and Victimization. Nothing exceeds like excess.

Too many adults find themselves in unhappy circumstances.

Alcoholism and Drug Addiction affect 10% of the population

According to the 2022 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 10.5% of people in the United States aged 12 and older have an alcohol use disorder (AUD). This breaks down by age group and race as follows:

  • Youth ages 12 to 17: 2.9%
  • Adults ages 18 and older: 11.2%
  • White people ages 12 and older: 10.9%
  • Hispanic or Latino people ages 12 and older: 10.8%
  • Black or African American people ages 12 and older: 10.5%
  • Asian people ages 12 and older: 5.6%

Alcoholism is the third leading cause of preventable death in the United States. However, less than 7% of people with an alcohol use disorder seek treatment.

While nearly one-third of American adults are considered "excessive" drinkers, only 10% of them have an alcohol use disorder.

Drug Use and Boring Schools have been on the rise. Parents need to use “Work” as a motivator to keep kids on an even keel. Colleges are toxic and overpriced. Student Loans are a “Trap”. Technical Trade Schools may be the only route for students to take. They can get hands-on experience that leads to careers.
