US Automation 10-11-24

Here are some examples of automation in manufacturing:

  • Robotic arms: Used in the automotive industry for tasks like windshield installation, screw driving, and wheel mounting.
  • CNC machines: Use computer software to control automated processes that are often more complex than those handled by robots. They are used in industries like aerospace for their high levels of precision and rapid production abilities.
  • 3D printing: Parts and products can be stored as design files in virtual inventories and printed on-demand at the point of need.

·       Automated guided vehicles: Used to transport goods within a warehouse with minimal or no physical effort from an employee.

·       Programmable automation: Used most often when manufacturing products in batches. It allows for customization and frequent changes throughout the manufacturing process.

·       Robotic process automation (RPA): Used to automate repetitive tasks.

·       Warehouse automation: Used to reduce margins and decrease reliance on human labor

Other examples of automation in manufacturing include:

·       Automated assembly, testing, and packaging of components in electronics and semiconductors

·       Automated packaging, bottling, and labeling in food and beverage

·       Automated drug formulation, packaging, and sterilization in pharmaceutical and medical devices

·       Automated injection molding and robotic material handling in plastics and rubber

·       Automated knitting, weaving, and sewing machines in textile and apparel

·       Automated processing and material handling in chemical

·       Automated woodworking, assembly, and finishing in furniture

·       Automated printing presses, binding, and finishing in printing and publishing

·       Automated glass forming and ceramic molding in glass and ceramics

Automating manufacturing is needed in the US before manufacturing can return to the US, because the cost of manufacturing in the US is too high. Automation increases Productivity. At Schwan Foods in the 1970s, we automated Pizza Production and took revenues from $150M to $650M and everybody got promoted. Automation also increases Quality. In the 1970s, US Auto Manufacturers used Robotic Welding Machines and eliminated bad welds.

If US Ports are closed, Tanker Ships will need to head to Mexico to unload their US imports. Trucks can deliver the imported goods to the US from the Mexican Ports. The Longshoremen need to agree to semi-automation to adapt their skill to new technology.
