Trump Administration wants to end special UN agency
just for Palestinian so-called “refugees”, by Ann Corcoran, 8/8/18.
“It is important to have an honest and sincere
effort to disrupt UNRWA” (Jared Kushner) and, doing so would save the US a whole
heck of a lot of money! (See chart below) Jared Kushner and UN Ambassador Nikki
Haley have a tough job ahead! It is worth the fight!
In fact, as you read this, the key thing you need to remember is that
NO Muslim country wants to permanently resettle Palestinians and the UN never
pressures those countries to take in their co-religionists as permanent
citizens.
Kushner Calls for Quashing UNRWA, Resettling
Palestinian Refugees (Don’t panic, they aren’t talking
about resettling them here. We take very few Palestinians as refugees to
the US.)
I’ve
written about the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) over
the years. It was specially set up in 1949 to care for the Palestinians
displaced from what became the state of Israel.
However,
unlike every other refugee situation under the UN umbrella, these ‘refugees’
are never permanently resettled and serve only one purpose—they perpetuate the
Middle East hatred of Israel.
If
they were legitimate refugees they should have long ago been taken care of by
the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The
other Muslim countries are perfectly happy to let the angry Palestinians create
generation after generation of so-called ‘refugees’ on Israel’s border.
Here is just one of many stories about
this administration’s push to abolish UNRWA.
Jared Kushner, Mideast adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump, called
for a “sincere effort to disrupt” the United Nations agency for Palestinian
refugees and look to resettle them in current host countries, internal emails
obtained by Foreign Policy Magazine show.
“It
is important to have an honest and sincere effort to disrupt UNRWA,” Kushner
reportedly wrote in emails in January, according to the Aug. 3 report. The
emails were addressed to a number of senior government officials, including
Trump’s Middle East peace envoy, Jason Greenblatt. “This [agency] perpetuates a
status quo, is corrupt, inefficient and doesn’t help peace,” he reportedly
wrote.
Kushner
has been tasked with brokering a peace deal to end the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict. FP reported that both American and Palestinian officials have painted
the push to undercut UNRWA as part of a Trump administration effort to strip
Palestinian refugees of their status. The move could tip the balance of peace talks in Israel’s favor by
removing the issue of Palestinians’ “right of return,” which Israel has
rejected.
Of
course Israel rejects the “right of return”, they would have no country as the
masses of Palestinians would take it over completely. And, besides, are we going to demand a right
of return for all Jews and Christians driven out of most of the Middle East and
North Africa?
The
Palestinian refugee population stands at around 5 million, with nearly
one-third living in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank, and Gaza. Over
174,000 Palestinian refugees currently live in Lebanon in 12 camps and
gatherings.
While the U.S. was a key supporter of UNRWA since its establishment in
1949, the Trump administration took a drastic measure in January to cut funding
to the agency.
The United States announced that it would contribute just $60 million
in 2018, down from about $360 million last year.
I
hope Trump succeeds in killing UNRWA! Notice
that only one rich Muslim country gives any significant amount of money to
maintain the Palestinians as refugees.
Perhaps
as we write this, the Trump Administration is lobbying other western countries
to pull their funding too!
The
top 10 donor countries to UNRWA in 2016 were: US $368,429,712, EU $159,765,906,
Saudi Arabia $148,000,000, Germany $73,627,810, UK $73,627,810, Sweden
$58,211,487, Japan $58,211,487, Switzerland $27,718,631, Norway $24,794,925,
Netherlands $21,718,631.
