God has a plan for you
and you’re not going to like it. Even for those of us who are grateful for our
“plan”, we didn’t enjoy the difficulties. The Bible calls this “pruning” so we
can grow.
We are exposed to all
manner of dangers, but our instincts suggest we are prone to take risks. We are
exposed to good and bad advice and examples. We tend to make our own choices.
We have free will and need to be taught to choose wisely.
At birth, we are
dependent on our mothers, fathers and family for food, drink, diaper changing,
bathing and relating. We are not shy to cry when we are hurt, hungry or
uncomfortable. We are also quick to smile for attention. When we are tired, we
fall asleep.
We can move our hands
and feet and our instinct is to crawl. We see the grown-ups standing and
walking and talking, so we imitate them. We are allowed to explore and taught
to use the toilet. We learn how to speak through observation. We are taught to
read and dress ourselves. We are taught
to be careful not to hurt ourselves. We are taught to not break things. We
learn our social skills by playing with other children. We are all unique. Kids
are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.
As we grow up, we have
the opportunity to discover our talents and interests. These need to be considered to determine what
we are good at and love to do. Those who identify these motivated abilities
early have a good chance of success and happiness in life. They find gratefulness.
My life-long friend
Mike Peters started to watch Disney and draw cartoons at the age of 3. He had
unique abilities. He loved humor and cartoons. He was a child prodigy. His
cartoons were way ahead of his physical age. He won the Pulitzer Prize for
Cartooning in 1981.
