At the
end of World War II, European countries were focused on rebuilding their
industries and preventing European wars forever. They were drawn to the idea of
forming a United States of Europe.
The
League of Nations failure to prevent war was dissolved and replaced by the UN
in 1945.
The EU
had its beginnings with the formation of a European Common Market Trade
Agreement at the Treaty of Rome in 1957. European countries had rebuilt their
industries after 1945 and were looking to form a “trade block”. The Treaty of
Rome established the European Economic Community EEC. Each member country
retained its sovereignty and the right to pass its own laws and enforce its own
borders.
The EEC
was formally created in 1951 and set about to integrate the economies including a common market and customs union, among its six founding
members: Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and West Germany. The Treaty of Rome called for the creation of an EU
Parliament
After 1960 the UK, Ireland, Greece, Denmark and
Norway joined and in 1962 Spain joined, bringing the total membership to 12
countries.
On 1 July 1967 when the Merger Treaty came into operation, combining the institutions of the
ECSC and Euratom into that of the EEC, they already shared a Parliamentary
Assembly and Courts. Collectively they were
known as the European Communities.
In 1979,
the EEC established an appointed Parliament and set about forming what we know
now as the EU.
The EU
was established as a governing body in 1993 at the Maastricht Treaty. 12 nations ratified the Maastricht Treaty on European Union: Great Britain, France,
Germany, the Irish Republic, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Denmark,
Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
The EU had
enthusiastically endorsed UN Agenda 21 in 1992 and began to remove borders and
the national sovereignty of member countries. The endgame is to establish the
EU as the European Region of a global government fronted by the UN and ruled by
Marxist Olygarchs.
