US Life Expectancy

Human lifespans remain at 0 to 100+ and have held this range throughout recorded history. Life expectancy measures the average of how the entire population is doing.

Life expectancy is a statistic based on the average age of those who died in a specific year. US average life expectancy has risen from 47 in 1900 to 80 in 2019.  Life expectancy data is affected by abortions, wars, disease, accidents, crime and is calculated by averaging age of a population at death.

The reduction in 1918 for men was due to deaths in World War I.  The increases in life expectancy in the 1920s is due to water chlorination and sanitary sewers to prevent disease.

Social Security was designed to provide a government pension in 1935 to begin at age 65, when life expectance was 60.

The increases in the 1940s is due to the discovery of penicillin and availability of anti-biotics to treat inflammation and epidemics. These increases outstripped the loss of life reflected in US World War II deaths.

The increases after the 1960s are due to $trillions being spent on US healthcare and removing consumer control of prices with excessive government subsidies. The increases in US population also affect this statistic.
