Northern Ireland Economy


Northern Ireland is part of the UK and would leave the EU if the UK leaves the EU.  The border between northern and southern Ireland is an issue. A lot of trade transpires between Northern and Southern Ireland. Northern Ireland is 48% Protestant and 45% Catholic. The unification of northern and southern Ireland is a political issue.

In 2018 Nominal GDP was 43.432 billion Euros. Nominal Per Capita GDP was 23,700 Euros. The Euro is priced at $1.10.

The population of Northern Ireland is 1.8 million. Land area is 5,456 square miles. Labor force is 0.9 million. Unemployment is 5.7%, Average salary is $2,797 /month.

Main industries are services, construction, agriculture and government. Ease of doing business is 7th.

Exports were 6,327 billion Euros in machinery, transport equipment, food, live animals, chemical products and manufactured goods sold to Ireland 33.4%, US 17.6%, Canada 5.8%, Germany 5.3%, France 4.8%, 

Imports were 6,078 billion Euros in manufactured goods, food, live animals, chemicals, machinery and transport equipment purchased from Ireland 27.2%, China 16.5%, US 8.2%, Germany 6.1% and Netherlands 5.7%.


Northern Ireland citizens and corporations pay the same high individual and corporate taxes as the rest of the UK.
