We are
mammals with souls. Our bodies are self-healing chemical plants that require
some attention. Our built-in instincts are to survive and reproduce. Our good judgment requires that we treat
others like we would like to be treated. We function best with freedom and take
a dim view of being enslaved. Our abilities are based on the “normal curve”.
These abilities are cognitive and physical. Cognitive abilities include things
like wisdom, judgment, mental agility and learning capacity. Our Physical abilities include things like
strength, endurance and physical agility.
Some of us have very high abilities in sports, music, art, academics and
leadership. Some of us have very low abilities in these and the rest in the middle
have average abilities. We also have different needs. Some need social contact
more than others. Some need accomplishment or time to think. Energy comes in
two flavors, physical and mental. Mental energy is enhanced by focus and
concentration. Physical energy is enhanced by keeping it moving.
Every 100
years we get all new people, so we don’t have to do this forever. We need to
find out why we are here and what we are hard-wired to do to enjoy this life
and trust our “gut” to make our choices how we spend this time. God speaks to
us through our “gut”. Our nervous systems provide feedback on our physical
well-being and our outcomes and results give us feedback on whether or not we
are on track to realize our full potential doing what we think we are here to
do. The goal is gratefulness. If we feel grateful, we are on track. If we
don’t feel grateful we need to get on track.
Our
strengths are clues to our weaknesses. Those who are driven to learn generally
associate with like-minded friends, but have to work at their relationship
skills to become less awkward with others. Those who are “high energy” have to
develop the ability to focus to harness that energy to achieve productive ends.
Our
weaknesses need attention. If we are low energy, we need to discover why we are
low energy. It could be physical and could improve with weight loss or better
nutrition. If our lethargy is due to
poor motivation, we need to change how we spend our time and begin to do what
we love. Most of our difficulties are
self-inflicted.
Our
strengths require our primary attention. These are the skills we are given to
use. If we develop them to allow us to be self-supporting, we will feel
satisfied and grateful.
