US Public
School K-12 costs are $14,000 per student per year. In-state Public College
tuition and fees are $9,000 to $12,400 per year. Like the Universities, all the
big money goes to building new schools costing $20 million, but funded by 5%,
30 year Bonds, so the real cost is $40 million. Like sports stadiums, these
schools are replaced every 20 years whether they need it or not. This is
controlled by the Educational-Municipal Complex Deep State.
In the
1950s, Catholic 1-8 grade schools were established in Parishes with churches,
rectories, convents and schools. Education costs were funded through Parish
donations and bequests. Nuns were trained as teachers in their disciplines,
lived in convents and taught in the schools. I graduated from Immaculate
Conception School in Maplewood Mo. in 1957. Parish-based education was free
until the 1980s. Now, tuition in Catholic Parish schools is $8,000 per year.
In the
1960s, Catholic 9-12 high schools had been established by Religious Orders and
Diocese with Nuns and Brothers trained as teachers in their disciplines.
Tuition was $250 to $500 per year. I
graduated in 1961 from Christian Brothers College Military HS in Clayton Mo.
Founded in 1850. Now the tuition at this schools is $12,400 per year
In the
1960s, Catholic Universities had been established by Religious Orders with
Priests and others as professors trained in their disciplines. Tuition was
$1000 per year. I graduated in 1965 from St. Louis University, a private,
Jesuit University founded in 1818. Now
the tuition at this school is $42,000 per year.
I got a
great education in some very old, but well maintained buildings. I rode my bike
to grade school, commuted to high school and college and worked as a musician 3
to 6 nights a week from age 14 and worked summer jobs to cover all my
educational and running costs.
A major
cost driver in education is the multi-million dollar buildings on manicured
expanded campuses that were built after the 1960s. Homeschooling is replacing
this mess.
