Breakdown by region
- Crimea: Russia seized control of the
Crimean Peninsula in 2014, and its approximately 10,400 square miles are
included in the overall total.
- Donbas (Donetsk and Luhansk): In the
Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, Russia controls about 88% of the
territory, occupying nearly all of Luhansk and about three-quarters of
Donetsk.
- Zaporizhzhia and Kherson: Russian
forces control approximately 74% of these two southeastern regions.
- Other areas: Small parts of the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Mykolaiv regions are also under Russian control.
