The Spanish Empire
developed from trading settlements and became a Roman Province from 218 BC.to
409 AD. Spain was ruled by the Visigoths from 409 AD to 711 AD and the Moors
from 711 AD to 1492. The Spanish Empire was created in 1492 and lasted until
1900. The Civil War from 1900 to 1939 ended with the establishment of a
socialist government from 1939 to 1975, when a democracy was
Formed.
By 1790, the Spanish
Empire had a population of 63 million and a land area of 7.7 million square
miles in South and North America and parts of Africa.
The Spanish Navy was a
match for the British and they dominated South American colonization.
