The
S&P 500 includes the largest US companies by revenue. In 1928, the S&P
500 closed at 19.94. In 2018 the S&P 500 closed at 2787.70.
The rise
is due to inflation over the last 90 years and the creation of the 401k to
funnel cash to buy stocks. The 401K provides capital to the private sector
economy.
After the
2008 crash, the Federal Reserve created $4 trillion and lent it to the banks to
keep the stock market functioning.
From 1928
to 1986, stocks were purchased through brokers.
