The
United States was formed in 1879 by the original colonies who signed in 1787,
1788 and 1789. The territories claimed were west of the States on the East
Coast and were engaged in Indian Wars. This included Kentucky, Tennessee and
Ohio as well as the Louisiana Territory purchased in 1803. Immigrant farmers
settled in the territories with their families. Some were given land grants and
others bought land from the US government.
It
took from 1790 to 1912 to settle territories and establish the States. At first
by boat and covered wagon and by railroad to California after 1869. Clusters of
farms and ranches established communities and towns sprang up around trade
routes. The immigrants who settled the US were busy establishing farms, ranches
and cities, shipping goods and defending themselves, their families and their
property.
