Minimum Wage in NYC 11-25-25

The minimum wage in New York City, Westchester, and Long Island is $16.50 per hour as of January 1, 2025. The minimum wage for the rest of New York State is $15.50 per hour.  

New York City: $16.50 per hour

Westchester and Long Island: $16.50 per hour

Rest of New York State: $15.50 per hour

Tipped food service workers: $11.00 cash wage plus tips

Tipped service employees: $13.75 cash wage plus tips

The minimum wage in New York City (NYC) for 2025 is $16.50 per hour for all employers, effective January 1, 2025. This rate also applies to Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties. 

Key Details

Standard Minimum Wage: The general minimum wage for most hourly workers in NYC is $16.50 per hour.

Future Increase: The minimum wage is scheduled to increase again to $17.00 per hour on January 1, 2026.

Starting in 2027, annual increases will be tied to an inflation index (the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers for the Northeast Region).

Tipped Workers: Special rules and tip credits apply to tipped employees in the hospitality industry.

Tipped Service Employees: Must receive a cash wage of at least $13.75 per hour, with a maximum tip credit of $2.75.

Tipped Food Service Workers: Must receive a cash wage of at least $11.00 per hour, with a maximum tip credit of $5.50.

Employers must ensure that the combination of cash wages and tips brings the employee's total hourly earnings to at least the $16.50 minimum wage.

Fast Food Workers: There is no tip credit for fast food workers, who must be paid the full minimum wage of $16.50 per hour.

Exempt Employees (Salary Threshold): To be classified as an exempt executive or administrative employee (and thus ineligible for overtime pay), employees in NYC must be paid a minimum weekly salary of $1,237.50 (equivalent to $64,350 per year) as of January 1, 2025.
