NYC Population 11-25-25

While an official 2025 census is not yet available, the most recent estimates place the NYC population around 8.48 million as of July 2024, with projections for growth. 

Here are the estimated populations for each borough:

Manhattan: Approximately 1.69 million

Brooklyn: Approximately 2.65 million

Queens: Approximately 2.33 million

Bronx: Approximately 1.39 million

Staten Island: Approximately 496,000  

As of the latest official estimates from July 1, 2024, the total population of 

New York City is approximately 8.48 million people. All five boroughs experienced population growth between mid-2023 and mid-2024. 

The population breakdown for each borough (which are also counties) is as follows:

Brooklyn       2,617,631

Queens        2,316,841

Manhattan   1,660,664

Bronx           1,384,724

Staten Island  498,212

Total NYC   8,478,072

These figures represent two consecutive years of population growth for the city after a decline during the pandemic, with Manhattan showing the largest percentage increase. The New York City Department of City Planning anticipates continued growth, projecting the total population will reach 9 million by 2035.

Comments

The highest cost of living in NYC is concentrated in Manhattan, followed by Brooklin, Queens and the Bronx.

The additional supply of apartment buildings Trump and Mandani will likely include all of these Boroughs.

This Rental Cost Model is consistent with other large cities. Rent costs are higher in areas that are closer to the city core, where the jobs are.

NYC is unique because Manhattan is more expensive to maintain, because most of the Tourist Sites are in or more easily accessed from Manhattan.
