Cyber Security

The most serious threat from cyber sabotage is our electric grid. In our rush to make everything electronic, we have also subjected our financial system to cyber theft. The US has invested in the high power microwave pulse weapon and we believe other countries have this capability. This weapon is capable of frying all electronic devices and this threatens everything we use to function as an economy. Identity theft is also a concern as we use credit cards and continually review our bills to catch and challenge unauthorized charges. Never-ending reports of systems hacking and our own experiences with computer viruses rounds out the problem.

What we don’t know is how effective we are at protecting our information and our electric grid. We have seen improvements in computer virus and malware protection, so I am encouraged that we will eventually find ways to end hacking. All businesses, especially banks and electric power companies will need to develop countermeasures to potential sabotage. I am most concerned about protecting from a high power microwave pulse weapon attack.
