Tariff plus VAT

The US does not have a VAT tax, but everyone else does and they range from about 10% to 25% and this tax is imposed on all US imports. In addition, most of these countries have tariffs and duties of 8% to 25% to load on US imports. The US charges a 2% tariff on imported cars. That’s why our trade deficit is $566 billion a year.

Countries causing US trade deficits are:
China - $636 billion traded with a $375 billion deficit.
Canada - $582 billion traded with an $18 billion deficit.
Mexico - $557 billion traded with a $71 billion deficit.
Japan - $204 billion traded with a $69 billion deficit.
Germany - $171 billion traded with a $65 billion deficit.

China charges a 15% tariff on imported nuts, fruits, wine, ethanol, ginseng, steel pipes and steel tubes. China charges a 25% tariff on imported pork and aluminum scrap. Also, China charges a 16% VAT tax.

Canada charges a federal VAT tax of 5% plus a 15% VAT tax for the provinces.
Germany charges a 19% VAT tax plus a 29% tariff on US cars.
Japan charges an 8% VAT tax that goes to 10% in 2019
Mexico charges a 16% VAT tax.
UK charges a 20% VAT tax and so do most other EU countries.
