France Surrenders

Faced with widespread carbon / fuel tax rioting, French President Emmanuel Macron surrendered.

The French government suspended the wildly unpopular fuel tax, for six months at least.
This is quite embarrassing, coming while the French delegation is busily advocating for every tax, mandate and control the UN can think up over at COP 24, the UN climate conference in Poland.

"The people are revolting!" Mel Brooks as Louis XIV: "You said it, they stink on ice."

France's "green vests" are correct that carbon taxes are economy-destroying mistakes.  However, they should ensure any who join their cause confine themselves to lawful protest and actions, and disassociate themselves from anyone indulging in violence, vandalism and arson.

Worldwide, people are wising up to the foolishness of radical global warming politics, particularly once they feel it in their wallets, or when their lights start flickering.

The wide gulf between climate fantasy and reality is on full display at COP 24 in Katowice, where our Polish hosts are showcasing their affection for coal front and center.  Over three quarters of Polish electricity is generated using Poland's ample supplies of Europe's best quality coal.   Coal has one of the highest energy densities of any fuel in common use, matching or surpassing gasoline, diesel and natural gas, and blowing away ethanol.

For Poland, coal means a way of life, and freedom.  The realistic alternative to coal for Poland is not variable wind and solar, but dependence on Russian natural gas.  Going back under Russia's thumb is the last thing any Pole with a sense of recent history will tolerate.
The Polish host committee at COP 24 is even featuring coal soap!

Another thing Poland does not want is the kind of rioting we've just seen in France.  They've decided to require permits for any demonstrations outside the COP, in case any radicals are planning to don masks and start smashing things up.

David Wojick contributed another excellent pair of article at CFACT.org.  The first explores the climate campaign's efforts to frighten people with scare stories just before the COP.  Check out The Church of Climate Fear.  The second explores the UN's bizarre use of language to obfuscate and control.

Climate fantasies are running into harsh reality everywhere.  Ron Stein provides a cogent example with his excellent piece on California's high speed rail project which now is headed to cost upwards of forty billion dollars!  All for a rail line no one really wants to ride.

The problem with left-wing projects, is that they sound nice to the inexperienced on the front end, but by the time they start doing real damage, massive costs have already been incurred.  Once their mistakes become obvious to all, they are often difficult or impossible to correct.
Laying out the facts before it is too late is an important task. Thank you to everyone who helps CFACT do it.
