Long-Term Trends in Employment by Age
Group
by Jill Mislinski,
This article has
graphs that shows US labor force participation from 1948 to 2018.
The top blue solid
line on the graph shows the US Labor Force Participation of Men and Women in
all in Age groups at 95.3% in 1948 and 84.6% in 2018.
The next blue solid
line on the graph shows Labor Participation of Men Age 25-64 at 63.4% in 1948 and
77.7% in 2018.
The next dotted line
shows Labor Participation of Men and Women Age 65+ at 46.8% in 1948 and 24.0%
in 2018.
The next solid red
line shows Labor Participation of Women Age 25-64 at 33.1% in 1948 and 71.1% in
2018.
The last dotted red line
shows Labor Participation of Women Age 65+ at 9.1% in 1948 and 15.8% in 2018.
The data in this
article doesn’t match the data used in the official Labor Participation Rate
number of 62.9%, but this data doesn’t include those under age 25. The data trends look correct to me as I
remember our years from 1948 to 2018.
