Famous
lawyer races to help Ferguson looting victims 'Will
not stand by idly while the city burns and lives are lost'
Larry Klayman, the
former Justice Department attorney and founder of Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch, has threatened to sue President Obama over
flights bringing Ebola patients to the U.S.
He has filed the
legal paperwork to try to get Obama deported.
He previously sued
the National Security Agency
and won at the district court level. He
has sued to get Barack Obama’s birth certificate. He
has sued Hugo Chavez on behalf of torture victims. He
has sued journalists. He has sued the Taliban and al-Qaida. He sued Cuba and won a multimillion-dollar judgment.
Now, his newest plan is to offer help to the victims of the
riots in Ferguson, Missouri.
He announced Freedom Watch will provide free legal
representation for victims of “mob violence” in the town plagued by rioting following
the announcement Monday that a grand jury had decided not to indict white
police officer Darren Wilson in the Aug. 9 shooting death of a black teen,
Michael Brown.
Klayman said he’s turning his attention to helping “those
unwillingly caught in the center of this national catastrophe.”
“We must seek justice for the innocent residents of Ferguson
who have been harmed by those who do not respect the rule of law,” he said.
“Freedom Watch will not stand by idly while the city burns and lives are lost
as a result of unwarranted criminal acts that are both harmful and deadly.”
Wilson encountered the 18-year-old, 290-pound Brown walking
down the middle of a Ferguson street shortly after Brown allegedly stole a box
of cigars from a convenience store.
Immediately after the incident, witnesses who later were
discredited claimed Brown was surrendering to Wilson and was shot in the back.
The grand jury concluded Brown attacked the police officer,
tried to wrest his service weapon away from him, fled briefly then turned back
on the officer and was charging him when the fatal shots were fired.
Rioting erupted after the shooting and returned Monday when
the decision not to charge the officer was announced. Dozens of vehicles and
buildings, including businesses, have been destroyed by rioters.
Klayman, whose battle
against “the seedy underbelly of Washington”
is chronicled in his book “Whores:
Why and How I Came to Fight the Establishment,” is the only lawyer ever to have obtained a court ruling
that a U.S. president committed a crime.
He still is known in Washington as the biggest enemy of the
city’s elite, having made a name for himself suing Bill and Hillary Clinton,
George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and foreign leaders such as Fidel Castro, Chavez
and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
His battles against corruption in the Clinton administration
became so well-known that a character in the hit TV series “West Wing,” Harry
Klaypool, was based on him.
