Sovereign nations have borders and border
enforcement to keep from being invaded. Borders are sometimes breeched by
refugees and criminals, but police can eventually catch them, determine they
are there illegally and follow a legal process to deport them. Immigration
officers can eventually catch up with those who overstay their visas. Lately
the federal government has suspended enforcement and 12 million illegal
immigrants remain with more promised to follow. Our border is wide open and we
are in an active war with terrorists.
Economist Milton Friedman warned: “You can
have open borders or a welfare plan, but not both.” We have a welfare plan that
includes cash payments, food stamps, housing, utilities, education, legal
services and an easy way to game tax refunds.
We need to revoke eligibility for illegal immigrants.
The federal government is responsible for
refusing to close the border and enforce immigration laws despite citizen
protests for decades. Communists have infiltrated the government and provided
politicians with lame excuses for not handling this and other problems.
