Gas Pipeline Case

AJC 2/3/18 Business page A3 Federal court ruling may lead to pipeline shutdown. This is a gas pipeline that runs for 500 miles through Georgia, Alabama and Florida. The Sierra Club sued over “emissions” due to burning natural gas and the DC Circuit Court ordered the shutdown. This is the Sabal pipeline owned by Duke Energy, Spectra Energy and NextEra Energy.

Pipelines are the best way to transport natural gas and I expect this to keep moving to the Supreme Court before it’s over. The suit criticizes the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for not considering the downstream effects of the natural gas pipeline.

I have lots of questions about this one.  It sounds like the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission needs to be included and might be culpable. I also wonder if the Sierra Club and the DC Circuit Court know that Obama is gone, Hillary lost and Trump won and removed a lot of environmental regulations.

Finally, I wonder if the Sierra Club would sue me for cooking steaks on my natural gas barbecue grill or having a wood fire in my fireplace using my natural gas starter.  I wonder how many carbon taxes the DC Circuit Court might think I need to pay.
