France is increasing
their gasoline tax by 12 cents per gallon and raising their diesel fuel tax by
24 cents per gallon. This prompted protests from drivers that brought 280,000
protestors into the streets of France in 2000 separate protests.

60% of the cost of
gasoline in France is for gas tax. The fuel cost per gallon is 40% of the total
cost. In France, gasoline costs $6.97 per gallon. $4.18 is the tax on the fuel
and $2.79 is the cost of the fuel. Much of the French economy depends on their
ability to transport goods and services. The farmers and merchants have spoken.
European politicians need to stop taxing their private sector producers out of
business.
