National Parks

The US federal government began to seriously ignore the US Constitution in 1872, when it established Yellowstone National Park. The Constitution had specific limits on federal government ownership of land and limited federal ownership to land they would use to function, like military bases and government office buildings. 

They did this without the required Amendment to the Constitution to allow for government to own parks and wilderness preserves. They violated the Constitution because they knew that the Amendment would not be ratified by the States. The States were not prohibited from owning land and the States could have established Yellowstone as a State Park.

The US federal government owns 30% of the US land mass.

There are 413 National Parks in all 50 States except Delaware. The earliest national parks established were: Yellowstone 1872, Sequoia 1890, Mount Rainier1899, Crater Lake 1902, Wind Cave 1903 and Mesa Verde 1906

Western States with the highest percentage of federal land include Nevada 84.9%, Utah 64.9%, Idaho 61.6% Alaska 61.2%, Oregon 52.9%, Wyoming 48.1%, California 45.8%, Colorado 35.9%, New Mexico 34.7%, Montana 29% and Washington 28.5%.

The US economy and the economies of states are adversely impacted by government’s failure to allow land to be put to productive use as family farms and ranches. Our economy depends on private sector expansion. Owners need to be able to protect their livestock from wild animals.
