The outcomes described above do not address the problems. Students own the primary responsibility to ensure that they are prepared to function as adults. Until students claim this responsibility, no improvements will be achieved. The good students who are currently in our K-12 Schools are either in Private Schools or are from families who teach achievement and can overcome Teacher inadequacy. Math Teachers need Math Degrees, Biology Teachers need Biology Degrees, Physics Teachers need Physics Degrees, Chemistry Teachers need Chemistry Degrees and should also teach Organic Chemistry.
Students need courses on what these adult responsibilities entail. They then need courses on how to do what adult responsibilities include. They will also need to know how to drive and check their oil and tire pressure and how to change their tires.
These courses would include things like: how to balance a checkbook, what laws are they required to obey, what are their responsibilities to become informed voters and how to accurately read instructions and understand contracts.
