GE Reshoring Appliances 8-15-25

Yes, GE Appliances is reshoring some of its appliance manufacturing, specifically washing machines, back to the United States in 2025. This move is part of a larger $3 billion investment to expand its U.S. manufacturing operations. The reshoring effort includes a $490 million investment in its Louisville, Kentucky facility to produce combo washer/dryers and front-load washers previously made in China, creating 800 new jobs. This expansion is not just limited to Kentucky, but also involves other states like Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and South Carolina, with the goal of shifting production of refrigerators, gas ranges, and water heaters out of China and Mexico.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Investment: GE Appliances is investing $3 billion in U.S. facilities and creating 1,000 new jobs over five years, according to The Courier-Journal

Reshoring: The company is bringing back washing machine production from China to its Louisville, Kentucky facility, says The Courier-Journal.

Job Creation: This initiative will create 800 new jobs in Louisville, Kentucky alone.

Modernization: The investment will also modernize and expand GE Appliances' 11 U.S. manufacturing plants.

Specific Products: The reshoring effort includes washing machines (including combo and front-load models) and potentially other appliances like refrigerators, gas ranges, and water heaters.

Timing: The initial phase of the investment, including the $490 million in Louisville, is expected to ramp up quickly by the end of August 2025.

This is good news. We replaced our dishwasher and oven- microwave combo with GE 40 years ago. GE continued to provide service and it’s good to see GE return to manufacturing appliances. Wood cabinets are in 86% of new homes.
