US Tariffs by Country 8-1-25

US President Donald Trump reimposed and adjusted "reciprocal tariffs" on numerous countries, with the new rates taking effect on August 1, 2025. While a 10% tariff applies to countries with which the US has a trade surplus, higher rates are in place for nations with trade deficits or those with which trade deals were not reached.

Some notable examples of countries and their respective tariff rates (as of August 1, 2025) include:

Canada: 35% on certain goods, linked to illicit drug flows. Goods qualifying under USMCA remain exempt.

Switzerland: 39%, a significant increase from previous proposals.

Taiwan: 20%.

India: 25%.

Brazil: Threatened 50% on certain imports (40% tariff + 10% baseline).

European Union, Japan, South Korea: 15%.

Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam: Rates adjusted, with Vietnam reduced to 20%.

Myanmar (Burma), Laos: 40%.

Iraq, Serbia: 35%.

Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Libya, South Africa: 30%.

Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tunisia: 25%.

Bangladesh, Sri Lanka: 20%.

Brunei: 25%.

Cambodia: 19%.

Nicaragua: 18%.

Israel, Iceland, Fiji, Ghana, Guyana, Ecuador: 15%.

It's important to note that many tariffs are still subject to ongoing negotiations and some rates may take effect at a later date, such as August 7, 2025, to allow for customs adjustments. The White House has indicated that these rates are determined largely based on the US trade deficit with its partners.
