The average hourly pay for a member of the United Auto Workers currently ranges from $28 to $38 for those hired before September 2007, and between $16 and $20 for workers hired afterward.

1. Michigan - There are 975 auto manufacturing establishments in Michigan, including 90 motor vehicle manufacturing, 95 body and trailer manufacturing and 790 parts manufacturing establishments, according to CAR. In 2014, the auto industry supported 532,000 jobs in Michigan, more than any other state in the U.S.

2. Ohio - There are 599 auto manufacturing establishments in Ohio, including 24 motor vehicle manufacturing, 96 body and trailer manufacturing and 479 parts manufacturing establishments, according to CAR. Ohio was second with 305,000 jobs.

3. Indiana - There are 519 auto manufacturing establishments in Indiana, including 23 motor vehicle manufacturing, 165 body and trailer manufacturing and 331 parts manufacturing establishments, according to CAR.

4. Texas - There are 502 auto manufacturing establishments in Texas, including 31 motor vehicle manufacturing, 178 body and trailer manufacturing and 293 parts manufacturing establishments, according to CAR.

5. Illinois - There are 371 auto manufacturing establishments in Illinois, including 24 motor vehicle manufacturing, 55 body and trailer manufacturing and 292 parts manufacturing establishments, according to CAR.

6. Tennessee - There are 280 auto manufacturing establishments in Tennessee, including nine motor vehicle manufacturing, 53 body and trailer manufacturing and 218 parts manufacturing establishments, according to CAR.

7. Missouri - There are 225 auto manufacturing establishments in Missouri, including 15 motor vehicle manufacturing, 74 body and trailer manufacturing and 136 parts manufacturing establishments, according to CAR.

8. Kentucky - There are 216 auto manufacturing establishments in Kentucky, including 11 motor vehicle manufacturing, 26 body and trailer manufacturing and 179 parts manufacturing establishments, according to CAR.

9. Alabama - There are 200 auto manufacturing establishments in Alabama, including 10 motor vehicle manufacturing, 41 body and trailer manufacturing and 149 parts manufacturing establishments, according to CAR.

10. Mississippi - According to a report by the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, there are 85 automotive manufacturing-related establishments in Mississippi, including eight motor vehicle manufacturing, 22 body and trailer manufacturing and 55 parts manufacturing establishments.
