Pipeline Construction Jobs


Pipeline construction requires determining the route the pipeline will take based on geology, agreements with property owners and local regulations. This also involves the use of heavy equipment for grading, trenching and blasting as necessary. The work of installing the pipeline falls to Pipeline Engineers, Pipeline Welders and Pipeline Construction Technicians. These construction crews will locate to the construction site.

Pipeline Welder - The average pay for a Pipe Welder is $23.84 per hour.  Total annual pay ranges from $35.156 to $105,528 based on overtime, bonuses, commissions and profit sharing.

Pipe welders have a physically intensive job in which they perform a variety of tasks, including assembling, installing and maintaining pipes for various processing systems; moving and handling objects; and communicating with colleagues on work-related tasks. They are also responsible for inspecting and repairing equipment, organizing and planning work activities, and operating vehicles, machinery, and equipment. Additionally, pipe welders may be responsible for training colleagues, and they must document any work they have performed.

Pipe Welder Tasks - Arrange pipes according to blueprint and weld them together using manual or semi-automatic welding machines. Follow safety procedures when operating equipment. Install pipe hangers, valves, support structures, and other elements of pipe systems. Select pipes of the proper type, size, and material for project, cut them to the correct length.


Pipeliners earned an average annual wage of $47,110, or $22.65 an hour. The 240 pipeliners in the natural gas industry were slightly better paid than their peers in the crude oil industry, earning an average of $47,830, compared with $40,970. Pipeliners are Pipeline Maintenance Technicians who troubleshoot, test, maintain, and repair pipeline equipment which may include valves, operators, and filtration systems. Performs periodic inspections and routine maintenance on the pipeline system.
