In 1966, I bought my
first home in St. Charles Mo and assumed a $16,000 home mortgage with a 4%
interest rate. My mortgage payment
was $150 per month.
In 1975 I moved to
Salina KS and bought a home for $55,000 with an interest rate of 6%. My
mortgage payment was $300 per month
In 1983 I moved to
Atlanta GA and bought a home for $135,000 with an interest rate of 13%. My
mortgage payment was $1500 per month. I refinanced to 10% and refinanced again
to 7% with a 15 year fixed rate loan. In 2002 I paid off the
mortgage.
I made money on fixed
investments since 1966 because of high interest rates that included a single
family home, a TIAA account and a 401K account.
I made money on stock
market investments after 1993 in the Vanguard 500 Index because interest rates
were low.
