US Factory Openings


It takes about 2 years for a company to build a manufacturing plant. The media does a lousy job of tracking this. US-Based and Foreign Owned companies are building factories in the US, opening them and hiring US citizens. It took 30 years to remove middle class jobs from the US, but it looks like they will be restored by 2024. It will take Tariffs on imports to do this.  See below.

Advanced Airfoil Components. Opened: October 2018. It Makes casting facility to produce components for Siemens gas turbines. Size: 
210,000 square feet. Capital Investment: $139 million. Location: Hillsborough County, Fla. 
Workforce: Estimated to create 350 jobs. 
Notable Notes: Advanced Airfoil Components is a joint venture between Siemens and Chromalloy. Facility equipment build-out is being done in stages and will be completed over a four-year period.

SK Innovation. Announced: December 2018. What it makes: electric vehicle battery manufacturing. Size: approximately 2 million square feet, constructed in two phases. Investment: $1.67 billion. Location: Jackson County, Georgia. Workforce: Estimated to create more than 2,000 jobs. Scheduled to Start: 
Construction to begin in early 2019

Waupaca Foundry. Announced: December 2018. What it makes: iron castings processing. Size: 
acquiring existing 50,000-square-foot facility. Investment: $4.3 million. Location: Ironwood, 
Michigan. Workforce: Estimated to create 61 jobs. Size: 100,000 square feet. Investment: 
$22.4 capital investment. Location: Ascension Parish, Louisiana. Workforce: Estimated to create 120 new direct jobs. Scheduled to Open: Q1 2020. Scheduled to Begin Construction: Spring 2019. Scheduled to Open: Second half of 2020.

Airbus. Groundbreaking: January 2019.What it Makes: A220 aircraft assembly. Location: Mobile, Alabama. Workforce: Estimated to create 400-plus full-time jobs. Production Scheduled to Begin: Q3 2019. Scheduled for Completion: By 2020.

Seqirus. Announced: November 2018. What it makes: influenza vaccine. Investment: $140 million expansion. Location: Holly Springs, North Carolina. Workforce: Estimated to create 120 permanent jobs. Notable Note: The current workforce at this site numbers more than 600 employees. Scheduled for Completion: by 2020
VEGA Americas Inc. Announced: December 2018.  What it Makes: Germany VEGA is a global manufacturer of process instrumentation for a range of industries. 

Saturn Petcare. Announced: January 2018. What it Makes: pet food.Size: 350,000 square feet plus. Investment: $38 million. Location: Terre Haute, Indiana. Workforce: Estimated up to create 200 jobs. Scheduled to Start Production: 
June 2020.

NSG Group. What it Makes: glass production for solar market. Size: 500,000 square feet. Location: Troy Township, Ohio.Workforce: 
Estimated to create 125 to 150 jobs

Wanhua Chemical Group Co. Ltd. Site Announced: November 2018. What it Makes: 
methylene diphenyl diisocyanate, or MDI. Size: 250-acre manufacturing site.  
Investment: $1.25 billion. Location: Convent, Louisiana.  Workforce: Estimated to create 170 direct jobs. Notable Note: The chemical manufacturing complex first was reported in 2017, but without a final site selection. 
Construction 'Substantially Complete': year-end 2021

Diageo. Announced: December 2018. What it Makes: alcohol distillery, dry house and warehousing. Investment: $130 million. 
Location: Lebanon,Kentucky. Workforce: 
Estimated 30 full-time jobs. Scheduled to Open: 2022

Volkswagen AG. Announced: January 2019. What it makes: electric vehicles. Investment: 
$800 million in plant expansion. Location: 
Chattanooga, Tenn.  Notable Note: Chattanooga will be the first dedicated site in North America using Volkswagen's modular electric toolkit chassis. Workforce: Estimated to add 1,000 jobs. Scheduled to Start Production: 2022
