France Exports


France shipped $568.4 billion worth of goods around the globe in 2018. 

The following export product groups represent the highest dollar value in French global shipments during 2018. Also shown is the percentage share each export category represents in terms of overall exports from France.

At the more detailed Harmonized Tariff System code level, France’s most valuable exported products are large airplanes followed by therapeutic or prophylactic drugs and medicines then motor cars. Among the 10 largest product categories, mineral fuels including oil was the fastest-growing via its 27.5% uptick from 2017 to 2018. In second place was the machinery including computers category up by 11.3%. Exports under the perfumes and cosmetics category rose by 10.9% year over year, trailed by vehicles’ 10.7% appreciation. Aircraft and spacecraft was France’s slowest-growing top export category thanks to its 0.7% uptick from 2017 to 2018. Note that the results listed above are at the categorized two-digit Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) code level.
Turkey was the only top importer that decreased its purchases from France from 2017 to 2018, down in value by -6.3%. Among the other 14 countries, gains ranged from a minimum of 3% for Hong Kong up to 26.7% for Singapore. There were two decliners among the top importers from France: Turkey with its -2.2% drop and Germany via its smaller -1.8% cutback.

Beverages, spirits, vinegar: $19.4 billion (3.4%)
Mineral fuels including oil: $18.7 billion (3.3%)
Optical, technical, medical apparatus: $16.9 billion (3%)

France’s top 10 export categories accounted for over three-fifths (61.9%) of the overall value of its global shipments.

Close to three-quarters (71.9%) of French exports in 2018 were delivered to the above 15 trade partners.
